Analysts agree that even though the federal government might have given themselves new powers to fast track the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline project that will send oil tankers through spirit bear waters, they won’t be able to overrule the courts. Given the numerous legal challenges planned – especially by First Nations – on constitutional grounds, the courts will likely delay a final decision on the project for years.
